Juliana | University of South Florida
My ELP experience has been remarkable. The ELP program allowed for a smooth transition from a university setting to working in the safety field and helped me develop the qualities needed for a leadership role. Starting in Atlanta, I was able to build relationships with the Global Safety and Health team and participate in trainings that prepared me to work in a manufacturing setting. During my rotation at a plywood mill, I applied those acquired skills and knowledge to projects involving a variety of safety topics such as LOTO, Fall Prevention, and Process Safety. These projects enhance my abilities to assess and reduce risk, facilitate employee participation in safety objectives, and help drive continuous improvement for the mill and GP.

Katie | Keene State College
My journey in the ELP program began at GP’s Alabama River Cellulose facility where I became qualified in HAZCOM emergency response and spent a great deal of time focusing on training, development, and delivery, while improving the overall safety culture. My second rotation was spent in Atlanta, supporting the Building Products division for six months and then the Global S&H group for the remaining months, focusing on training and industrial hygiene, and managing safety from a higher organizational level. Currently, I am a EHS Specialist at the Lexington Dixie plant coordinating all environmental affairs and managing compliance training, procedures, and execution of occupational health standards. The ELP program has given me necessary training and development to become a first-rate safety professional while creating long term value at GP.

GP has helped launch my career as the site Safety Manager at our gypsum facility in Wheatfield, IN. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA, my experience in the ELP program has been a life-changing journey. I began my rotation living in southern California working in GP’s packaging division. Soon after, I got to experience the day-to-day operations at our containerboard mill in Virginia. All within a span of two years, I have traveled across the country to many facilities and have since grown an extensive professional network of great coworkers. The ELP program is like no other, as I have been involved with high-level facility operations, enhancing and implementing safety management systems, while also developing my leadership skills. I was amazed at all the opportunities with which GP presented me, to enhance my skills and succeed. The ELP program will give you the chance to discover your potential as a safety professional!
