The term “coatings” covers a broad spectrum of GP Chemicals products – from coatings for paper, tissue/towel and packaging to important ingredients for the paint and coatings market.
Industrial Coatings
Phenolics are used to formulate thermoset protective coatings for rigid substrates. Often used as the sole resin, GP Chemicals phenolics can be modified with small amounts of epoxies, vinyls or any other hydroxyl-containing polymer to optimize chemical resistance. Major applications for these products include: coatings for drums and pails, tanks and rail car linings, pipes, coal coatings and can linings.
Other GP Chemical phenolic resins are used to formulate high-performance varnishes and oil-based vehicles for air dry paints in the paint and coatings industry. Because they are formulated to adhere to poorly prepared steel surfaces, these products are a key ingredient for maintenance and marine coatings.
The coatings industry is a large market for tall oil fatty acid (TOFA) products from GP Chemicals. TOFA is used to make alkyd resin and epoxy resin for paint and other coatings.
Paper Coatings
In the paper industry GP Chemicals offers an extensive line of coating products. Our Navigator™ Yankee Dryer system for the tissue and towel industries features new coating chemistries that can be adapted to meet each customer’s specific requirements for the changing demands of these markets.
NovaCote PC® resins are an ever-growing line of aqueous-based coating including pigmented, functional, barrier and specialty coatings targeting paper and packaging applications. The products in the NovaCote PC portfolio provide a range of resistance to water (including moisture vapor transmission rate (MTVR)), oil or grease. Several products are flexo printable. Additionally, most can be glued with cold set and/or hot melt adhesives. Most products are FDA approved for dry food contact and aqueous and fatty food contact. Waxable and non-wax whites, bakery whites, overprints, custom color, wax replacement for produce and protein applications are just a few of the many products in this comprehensive coatings portfolio.
