Adhesives for wood composites Wood Adhesives

We supply the wood composites industry with an extensive line of adhesives including plywood adhesives; oriented strand board (OSB) resins; hardboard resins; particleboard & medium density fiberboard (MDF) resins; and laminated veneer lumber (LVL) adhesives.

  • Plywood Adhesives - GP Chemicals manufactures both neat resins and the RESI-MIX® line of ready-to-use mixed adhesives. Neat GP® liquid phenol-formaldehyde (PF) resins are available for mills that prefer in-plant mixing of their own adhesive system. RESI-MIX® ready-to-use adhesives combine neat liquid PF resins with extenders and fillers. These adhesive systems work across a broad range of veneer moisture and assembly conditions and can be customized to meet product requirements and mill conditions.
  • OSB Resins - RESI-STRAN® liquid phenol-formaldehyde (PF) adhesives and WOODWELD® powder PF adhesives are available for this application. RESI-STRAN adhesives are available in face and core resin formulations and can be customized for resin cure speed. WOODWELD resins are also offered in both face and core formulations and typically allow for lower resin application rates.
  • LVL Adhesives - RESI-MIX® ready-to-use mixed adhesives are formulated specifically for LVL. ASTM D2559 and CSA0112.6 certified products are available as well as adhesive systems possessing fast tack development for LVL lay-up lines that employ a prepress operation. The products can be custom-formulated with appropriate extenders to meet challenging mill conditions.
  • Hardboard Resins – GP Chemicals manufacturers a line of phenol-formaldehyde resins and catalysts for use in hardboard applications.
  • Particleboard & MDF Resins – LEAF® low-emission resins for use in particleboard and MDF are offered by GP Chemicals. LEAF C2 resins can be urea-formaldehyde or melamine-urea-formaldehyde and can contribute to compliance with CARB Phase 2. LEAF GB resins may be melamine-formaldehyde, melamine-urea-formaldehyde or phenol-formaldehyde based and can contribute toward meeting various green building standards.
  • Adhesives and Sealants

    GP Chemicals manufactures NovaRes® tall oil rosin ester, a specialty pine-based derivative product for adhesives used in book binding, pressure-sensitive tapes and labels. NovaRes® is used for tackifying hot melt and other adhesives. Advantages include broad polymer compatibility and oxidative stability. Our LYTOR® tall oil rosin is derived from quality crude tall oil and is an excellent chemical intermediate for a wide variety of markets and applications, including adhesives and sealants.

    In addition to these pine-based products for the general adhesives and sealants industry, many of our phenol-formaldehyde and urea-formaldehyde resins and modifiers are used for grit adhesion to various substrates for industrial applications including scrubbing pads and coated abrasives.
