How the Warning System Works
In a real emergency, the sirens will have a wailing, true siren sound, and the community will be able to determine what action to take by tuning in to a local radio or TV station. We recommend emergency broadcast radio AM 1670. You will be told whether to evacuate or stay inside until you receive an all-clear tone.
The siren also may include an oral message, such as "Train derailment...possible hazards.... stay inside until all-clear broadcast."
If you are asked to stay inside, it's essential that you "Shelter in Place." That means, gathering everyone, including pets, into a pre-selected room and sealing it off. The Shelter-in-Place link has a list of items you will need to create a shelter-in-place kit.
