Atlanta, GA. August 10, 2007 --
Following 20 years of paperless technology and innovation, Georgia-Pacific Gypsum is unveiling the newest addition to its paperless portfolio, DensArmor Plus® Abuse Guard® paperless interior drywall. The new 5/8” DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard drywall resists common wear and tear in high-traffic areas, such as corridors in hospitals, hotels, schools, dormitories and other public buildings when tested in accordance with the standard testing classification for abuse resistance in non-decorated interior gypsum panel products and fiber-reinforced cement panels.
“Georgia-Pacific Gypsum is continuing to re-energize and evolve the building industry by developing superior products that are changing the way buildings are constructed,” said Leo Bissonnette, general sales manager for Georgia-Pacific Gypsum. “We are continuing to expand our paperless drywall product line with new offerings such as DensArmor Plus® Abuse Guard® drywall in response to increased industry demand.”
Following stringent surface abrasion testing, in line with the ASTM International classification (ASTM C 1629), DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard drywall achieves a level three, which is the highest level for abrasion resistance under the standard. ASTM International is one of the largest voluntary standards development organizations and serves as an industry source for technical standards regarding materials, products, systems, and services. DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard drywall also achieves a level one classification for indentation resistance and a level one classification for soft body impact resistance.
DensArmor Plus® Abuse Guard® drywall is the only abuse-resistant drywall on the market that has earned both GREENGUARD and GREENGUARD Children and Schools(sm) Certification for products that have low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). It also qualifies for Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) credits. CHPS, based in California, is a national non-profit organization that works with school districts and their design teams to improve the quality of education by using products that have met requirements to receive CHPS credits.
"Schools often specify more durable gypsum panels in high traffic areas. With the GREENGUARD Children & Schools Certification of the new Georgia-Pacific Gypsum DensArmor Plus® Abuse Guard® drywall product, school design teams can achieve more durability with lower chemical emissions to support better indoor air quality," commented Carl E. Smith, CEO of GREENGUARD Environmental Institute.
In addition to the moisture- and mold-resistance benefits, the commercial building industry will benefit from using DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard drywall because it resists warping, rippling and buckling and installs just like regular gypsum drywall. DensArmor Plus Abuse Guard drywall is noncombustible and has a zero flame spread index. It is UL classified and can be used in any fire-rated assembly where 5/8” Type X drywall is specified. It is also easy to cut and can be installed with standard drywall tools and fasteners.
The paperless building materials portfolio from Georgia-Pacific Gypsum includes its legacy product-DensGlass Gold® exterior sheathing, DensGlass Ultra™ shaftliner, DensDeck® roof boards, DensArmor Plus® interior drywall and DensShield® tile backer. About Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS)
Founded in 2000, the Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) is a non-profit organization that strives to facilitate the design of high performance schools: environments that are healthy, comfortable, energy, resource and water efficient, safe, secure, adaptable, and easy to operate and maintain. High performance schools help school districts achieve higher student performance, retain quality teachers and staff, reduce operating cost, increase average daily attendance (ADA), and reduce liability, while at the same time reducing environmental impact and resource use. CHPS credits are offered for the GEI certified products that meet the testing method requirements and emission limits defined in the agreement between CHPS and GEI. GREENGUARD testing methods and criteria outside of the scope of this Agreement, including testing for total VOCs, phthalates, total particles, and criteria for iVOCs with no CRELs, have not been evaluated and are not endorsed by CHPS or California Department of Public Health.
