American Forest & Paper Association "Leaders in Sustainability" Energy Efficiency Award
Georgia-Pacific was recognized for its comprehensive energy management program to
reduce energy intensity in its manufacturing operations. The award is one of the
association's Better Practices, Better Planet 2020 Sustainability Awards, which
recognize exemplary sustainability programs and initiatives.
National Safety Council "CEOs Who 'Get It'" Award
Georgia-Pacific's CEO was one of nine business leaders recognized with the
"CEOs Who 'Get It'"
award for their organizations' world-class safety programs by the National Safety Council. The council, a leading
advocate for safety with chapters throughout the United States, commended the leaders for "creating a strong safety
culture within their organizations."

Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award
Green Bay (Broadway), Wisconsin, consumer products facility
Employees at Georgia-Pacific’s Green Bay (Broadway) facility received the Wisconsin Corporate Safety Award, which is given by the Wisconsin Safety Council and the Department of Workforce Development to companies based on their safety and health leadership; training programs and implementation; and employee participation. The Broadway mill was recognized in the “manufacturing/largest facility” category.
USDA Two Chiefs’ Partnership Award
Philomath, Ore., wood and fiber supply group
Georgia-Pacific’s wood and fiber supply group was recognized, along with other local, state and federal groups,
for its participation in forest stewardship projects on the Siuslaw National Forest along the Oregon
coast. Presented by the leaders of the U.S. Forest Service and the Natural Resources Conservation
Service, the "Two Chiefs" Partnership Award" recognizes outstanding efforts in conservation and forest
stewardship.
W.W. Grainger "Green Supplier of the Year"

A+ Awards are presented by Atlanta Partners for Education, a joint initiative between the Atlanta Public School System and the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce that facilitates partnerships between local businesses and Atlanta Public Schools. The A+ Summa Cum Laude Award recognizes a longstanding partnership (five or more years) that has school-wide impact and has demonstrated commitment and sustainability.
The company’s headquarters employees have partnered with M. Agnes Jones Elementary School through the Atlanta Partners for Education program since 1997.
State of Utah Innovation in Reclamation Award

Georgia-Pacific’s Sigurd gypsum mining operations were recognized by the state of Utah for the work they did to reclaim a previously mined area. Employees came up with an innovative way to meet the state’s reclamation requirements that was quicker and more cost effective.
Humantech Find It – Fix It Challenge™ Award

The Find It – Fix It Challenge recognizes simple and effective workplace solutions that result in increased productivity, improved worker morale and fewer workplace injuries and illnesses. Georgia-Pacific’s Wauna mill received the first-place award for improvements to its process for covering pulp bales, which minimized employee ergonomic risk while at the same time increasing quality and reducing costs.
OSHA Voluntary Protection Program “Star Among Stars” Award
Muskogee, Okla., consumer products facility
The Muskogee mill received this award from U.S. OSHA Region VI as a site that achieved a total case incident rate and days away/restricted/transfer case rate well below the Bureau of Labor Statistics national average.
Ontex “Excellence in Sustainability 2010” Award
GP Cellulose
GP Cellulose was recognized by its customer Ontex, which makes hygienic disposable baby care, feminine care and adult care products, for its work in obtaining sustainable forestry certification.
Best Marketing Innovation of the Decade Award
Georgia-Pacific’s enMotion® brand of touchless dispensers received recognition from the Georgia State University Robinson College of Business and the Atlanta Business Chronicle as the Best Marketing Innovation of the Decade. The enMotion dispensers help create a more hygienic environment and reduce usage by up to 30 percent compared with standard folded towels.

Dannon Corrugated Supplier of the Year Award
Georgia-Pacific Packaging
The Dannon Company named Georgia-Pacific’s packaging group its Corrugated Supplier of the Year in GP’s first year of working with the yogurt producer. The award is based on performance in four categories – safety, cost, innovation and quality. Dannon cited GP’s Packaging Systems Optimization (PSO®) work in innovative thinking and cost-saving opportunities as key to their selection.
Union Pacific Railroad Pinnacle Award
Georgia-Pacific Chemicals
GP’s chemicals business earned Union Pacific Railroad’s Pinnacle Award for achieving a rate of zero nonaccident releases for shipments of regulated hazardous materials.
Wyoming Governor’s Safety Award

The company’s Lovell operation was recognized in the large general industry category, one of 10 Wyoming businesses honored for outstanding safety and health programs.
Oregon Occupational Safety & Health Division Recognition

The mill was recognized for achieving 1 million hours worked without a lost-time accident between February 2008 and April 2009.
Leo Bankston Ground Water Conservation Award
Port Hudson, La., consumer products facility
Georgia-Pacific’s Port Hudson, La., mill installed technology improvements at 20 water wells, generating information that helped the mill reduce total groundwater use. This annual award presented by the Capital Area Ground Water Conservation Commission recognizes and encourages good stewardship of water resources.
Southern Forest Products Association Safety Awards

The Southern Forest Products Association (SFPA) recognized Georgia-Pacific sawmills at Columbia, Miss.; Crossett, Ark.; Gurdon, Ark.; Monticello, Ga.; Sterling, Ga.; and Taylorsville, Miss., with awards for their outstanding safety performance.
APA – The Engineered Wood Association Safety and Health Awards
Georgia-Pacific Wood Products
Five Georgia-Pacific facilities were recognized by the APA for their safety performance. The Madison, Ga., plywood plant received the 3-Year Safety Award. The Warm Springs, Ga., plywood plant was recognized with the Safety Improvement Award. GP plants at Emporia, Va.; Grenada, Miss.; and Ocala, Fla., made APA’s Incident Free Honor Society for having no incidents in 2008.
International Sanitary Supply Association Product Innovation Award

The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) presented its Product Innovation Award to GP’s SmartStock® Ultra Cutlery Dispenser and Carousel. The dispenser promotes hygiene and reduces waste with its “one at a time” cutlery dispensing, and the carousel provides operational efficiency by making it easier to restock. Judges for the award were distributors and facility service providers who are major buyers of GP’s away-from-home products.
U.S. EPA Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative “Champion”

GP’s consumer products group was recognized by the U.S. EPA as a Champion in its Design for the Environment Program’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative (SDSI). The program recognizes environmental leaders who voluntarily commit to the use of safer surfactants that break down quickly to non-polluting compounds and help protect aquatic life in both fresh and salt water. Champion is the highest level of recognition offered under SDSI.
Selling Power Magazine “Best Manufacturing Companies to Sell For”
Selling Power magazine ranked Georgia-Pacific among the top 25 manufacturing companies in the United States for salespeople to work for. The magazine analyzed companies with sales forces of more than 500 employees, looking for those companies with the best mix of compensation, training and career mobility.
Civic Star Award
Atlanta, Ga., headquarters
The Georgia-Pacific Buddy Program, a program where Atlanta headquarters employees tutor local elementary school students, was honored with a Civic Star Award by the American Association of School Administrators and Sodexho, Inc. The Civic Star Award recognizes the success of school and business partnership efforts, positive impact on student achievement, school improvement and/or the overall education experience.
International Sanitary Supply Association Product Innovation Award

The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) presented its Product Innovation Award to GP’s enMotion® Impulse® 8 towel dispenser. The touchless enMotion dispenser promotes hygiene and reduces waste by dispensing towels one at a time. The Impulse 8 version is smaller than the original enMotion dispenser and can be used in tight work areas. Judges for the award were distributors and facility service providers who are major buyers of GP’s away-from-home products.
Leo Bankston Ground Water Conservation Award
Port Hudson, La., consumer products facility
This annual award presented by the Capital Area Ground Water Conservation Commission recognizes and encourages good stewardship of water resources. The Port Hudson mill was recognized for several water conservation projects that resulted in saving about 2.3 million gallons per day of groundwater pumping.
Arkansas Recycling Coalition Corporate Recycler of the Year
Fort Smith, Ark., Dixie® facility
The Fort Smith, Ark., facility earned the 2006 Corporate Recycler of the Year Award from the Arkansas Recycling Coalition. The facility makes the company’s Dixie brand of cups, plates and cutlery.
Wisconsin Governor’s 2006 Pulp and Paper Energy Efficiency Award
Green Bay (Broadway), Wis., consumer products facility
Employees at the Green Bay (Broadway), Wis., facility received the Wisconsin Governor’s 2006 Pulp and Paper Energy Efficiency Award, the state’s top honor for energy efficiency. The mill introduced a new drying system that reduces the use of natural gas and provides an annual energy savings of $650,000.

The Savannah River mill was recognized for its work with Ebenezer Middle School.
American Forest & Paper Association (AF&PA) Safety Excellence Awards
AF&PA, a trade association for the forest, paper and wood products industry, presents its Safety Excellence awards to recognize member company facilities that achieve exemplary performance in health and safety. The awards are categorized by type of operation (pulp and paper, converting, lumber and wood products, etc.) and by number of annual work hours. Winners in each category have the lowest OSHA total case incident rate (TCIR).

The Ontario Pulp and Paper Health and Safety Association recognized the company’s Thorold gypsum plant with its “Most Improved Injury Frequency Award.”
Institute of Internal Audit (IIA) Recognition of Commitment Award
The internal audit department, part of Georgia-Pacific’s finance group, was one of 26 organizations worldwide to win IIA’s Recognition of Commitment Award for 2005. Georgia-Pacific was the first company in the forest products industry to receive the award, based on criteria that included professional excellence, quality and outreach.
Partners in Education – Partner of the Year Award

Employees received the 2006 Partner of the Year Award from the local school system’s Partners in Education program.
Circle of Humanitarians Award
Port Hudson, La., consumer products facility
The American Red Cross honored employees at Georgia-Pacific’s Port Hudson, La., mill with the Circle of Humanitarians Award for their volunteer relief work through the Louisiana Capital Area Chapter of the American Red Cross during the 2006 hurricane season.
Despite dealing with power and transportation issues at the mill and in their neighborhoods, employees arranged for thousands of displaced hurricane victims at area shelters to receive five truckloads of Brawny®, Quilted Northern® and Dixie® products. Georgia-Pacific donated the products from facility and company warehouses in the region.

The International Sanitary Supply Association (ISSA) presented its Product Innovation Award to GP’s Safe-T-Gard® tissue dispenser and trash receptacle for use in public restrooms. The unit dispenses tissue for use as a barrier between clean hands and door handles. Judges for the award were distributors and facility service providers who are major buyers of GP’s away-from-home products.
Virginia Governor’s Silver Environmental Excellence Award
Big Island, Va., containerboard facility
The Big Island, Va., containerboard mill received a 2005 Governor’s Silver Environmental Excellence Award for its environmental management system. The mill was one of six winners in the large manufacturer category. The awards were sponsored by the state’s governor, secretary of natural resources, environmental department and the Virginia Manufacturers Association.
Leo Bankston Ground Water Conservation Award
Port Hudson, La., consumer products facility
This annual award presented by the Capital Area Ground Water Conservation Commission recognizes and encourages good stewardship in the use of water resources. GP’s Port Hudson, La., mill received the award for developing a process to separate paper fiber from wastewater for reuse in manufacturing towels. On a daily basis, a half-ton of fiber was recovered and fresh water consumption was reduced by 216,000 gallons.
Frank Condon Award for Environmental Excellence
Muskogee, Okla., consumer products facility
Georgia-Pacific’s Muskogee, Okla., mill received the Frank Condon Award for Environmental Excellence from the Environmental Federation of Oklahoma. The mill received the award for its Fuzzy Filter Effluent Recycle Project that conserved nearly 800 million gallons of water and recycled almost 1.3 billion gallons of effluent in 2005. Usually used for sanitary wastewater discharges, the mill installed a fuzzy filter system to reduce water consumption from the local river.

The Caledonia facility was honored for demonstrating a continued passion for excellence, and promoting the advancement of responsible leadership and harmony within the community.
Atlanta Public Schools Superintendent’s Special Recognition Award
Atlanta, Ga., headquarters
Georgia-Pacific received the Superintendent’s Special Recognition Award, which recognizes the outstanding contributions of business and education partnerships that exceed the norm. The company’s headquarters employees have partnered with M. Agnes Jones Elementary School through the Atlanta Partners for Education program since 1997.
Pulp & Paper Safety Association Awards
Three Georgia-Pacific mills were recognized for their safety accomplishments by the Pulp & Paper Safety Association, a North American organization focused on continuous safety improvement in the forest products industry. The New Augusta, Miss., cellulose mill and the Port Hudson, La., consumer products mill received Best One Year Safety Record awards. The Port Hudson mill also received a Safe Hour Award. The Big Island, Va., containerboard mill won awards for Most Improved Safety and No Lost Work Day Cases.

Best Workplaces for Commuters
Georgia-Pacific was named one of the Best Workplaces for Commuters℠ in 2005. Established by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Transportation, this program publicly recognizes employers whose commuter benefits reach the National Standard of Excellence. Employers agree to a minimum level of employee participation, designate a central point of contact for employee questions, provide an emergency ride home for participating employees and offer a choice of commuter benefits.
Military-Friendly Employers
G.I. Jobs magazine named Georgia-Pacific as one of the top “military-friendly” employers in the United States. Georgia-Pacific received this distinction based on the strength of company military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service, and company policies toward National Guard and Reserve service.
Catalyst Award
The prestigious Catalyst Award was presented to Georgia-Pacific for the company’s investment in career development and advancement of women.
AFL-CIO 2005 Labor-Management Award
Georgia-Pacific received the AFL-CIO 2005 Labor-Management Award, which recognizes cooperative relations between company management and labor.
Atlanta Better Business Bureau Torch Award
Georgia-Pacific was presented with the 2005 Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics in recognition of the company’s values and overall business ethics practices. Georgia-Pacific won in the category of an Atlanta-based company with more than 1,000 employees.
IT Organization of the Year
Georgia-Pacific’s information technology group was named “Organization of the Year” by the International Association for Human Resource Information Management (IHRIM), Atlanta/Southeast chapter for its work on Web applications that allow employees to access their personal information. Each year, IHRIM recognizes companies that have developed and implemented innovative human resource system practices to add strategic value to their business.

Georgia-Pacific’s Quilted Northern Ultra® bath tissue won two top marketing awards in connection with its Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation partnership to donate more than $1.5 million to the Komen Foundation. The brand captured first place in the event marketing categories of the 2005 Promotional Marketing Association’s Reggie Awards and the Cause Marketing Association’s Halo Awards.
Portraits of Sweet Success Honoree
The Intergenerational Resource Center named Georgia-Pacific as one of the Portraits of Sweet Success honorees for providing financial support to its quality of life programs for more than six years. Because of the support of
Georgia-Pacific and other companies, IRC expanded its programs dedicated to seniors and the physically challenged in Atlanta.
