NITAMIN® Liquid Fertilizers in Ag Markets
ATLANTA, GA. October 20, 2006 --
Georgia-Pacific Resins, Inc. today announced a long-term agreement with Wilbur-Ellis Company to expand the availability of Nitamin® liquid fertilizers. As part of the agreement, Wilbur-Ellis will have the exclusive right to distribute Nitamin fertilizers to the specialty agriculture and commodity crop markets that Wilbur-Ellis currently serves in the United States.
"Georgia-Pacific is pleased to enter into this relationship with Wilbur-Ellis. Their extensive crop production expertise and excellent reputation as a leading distributor in key ag markets makes them a natural fit to distribute our innovative Nitamin Steady-Delivery® fertilizers,” said Rick Urschel, president of Georgia-Pacific’s chemical division. “This business collaboration highlights a goal that both Wilbur-Ellis and Georgia-Pacific share - to provide efficient crop fertilization solutions and value to growers who are looking to maximize their return on crop input expenses.”
“This is a rare opportunity in the industry for Wilbur-Ellis to combine our agricultural expertise with the research and development capabilities of Georgia-Pacific, a solid company that’s been a major raw material supplier to the fertilizer industry for over 20 years,” said John P. Thacher, Wilbur-Ellis president and chief executive officer. “We plan to capitalize on this exclusive alliance to bring advanced crop production technologies and enhanced value to our customers. We are confident that our combined abilities will result in outstanding agronomic tools that will assist growers in effectively managing the nitrogen needs of their crops.”
The agreement provides Wilbur-Ellis with an exclusive position to distribute Nitamin liquid fertilizers to the specialty agriculture and commodity crop markets in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Nitamin liquid is a slowly available nitrogen source developed by Georgia-Pacific that releases nitrogen to plants over a 60- to 90-day period. An extensive number of replicated research studies and commercial grower trials, conducted over the past three years throughout the United States and in regions of South America and Asia, have demonstrated that Nitamin liquid enhances the yield and quality of a wide variety of crops. Georgia-Pacific and Wilbur-Ellis will coordinate additional university research studies and commercial grower trials using varying Nitamin blends for specialty and commodity crop production.
In addition to the specialty agriculture and commodity crop markets, Wilbur-Ellis will also distribute Nitamin fertilizer technology for the turf market.
