ATLANTA, Georgia. June 29, 1998 -- The paper chemicals group of Georgia-Pacific Resins, Inc. (GPRI) has introduced an innovative, patent-pending size technology under the trademark NovaSize AKD™. The first product to be commercialized under the trademark is NovaSize AKD™ 3036, an alkaline-reactive internal sizing agent that is offered at 30% total solids. The product has an extended shelf life of six months.

GPRI Sales Manager Mike Markillie noted that NovaSize AKD 3036 demonstrated a 20 - 30% improvement in efficiency over other AKD-based products on an equal-solids basis during commercial evaluations.

"The efficiency and physical property improvements are possible due to breakthroughs in emulsion technology," said Markillie. NovaSize AKD 3036 is the first of a family of AKD-based sizing products to be offered by GPRI. The company plans to offer a line of NovaSize AKD products based on the needs of its customers' papermaking systems, and according to fiber source and paper grade requirements.
