PEACHTREE CITY, Georgia. May 07, 1998 -- Georgia-Pacific Resins Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific Corp., today announced it will close its resin manufacturing facilities at Peachtree City. About 33 employees will be affected.
Current customers of the Peachtree City plant will have their needs supplied by other Georgia-Pacific plants. Production at Peachtree City will cease as soon as modifications at the other plants have been completed and customers have had an opportunity to test the quality and performance of the products from their new sources.
“In recent years, we have taken steps at several of our manufacturing facilities that have provided additional production capacity, the opportunity to consolidate certain processes, reductions in production costs and overall improvements in competitiveness,” said James R. Taylor, vice president, Chemical Division. “Those improvements led to the decision to close the Peachtree City plant.”
Georgia-Pacific Resins has completed a review of all of its operations -- including which products are manufactured at which facilities -- to determine the best and most competitive locations for all products for the future, and the best way to serve each plant’s customers.
The Peachtree City plant opened in 1976 and was purchased by Georgia-Pacific in 1981. It has produced industrial resins, paper and pulp chemicals, and resins used in plywood, oriented strand board, insulation, paper, tissue, air filters, molded foundry products and brake shoes.
